The Aquarium System

Gianmarco Rescigno

For about two months, due to the lockdown imposed by the government to face the Covid-19 pandemic, I’ve found myself isolated yet still connected to others in a way I’ve never experienced before.
My “real” sociality had been replaced by a new “virtual” sociality, made up of classes, webinars, group assignment and drinks with friends through a webcam.
The faces of my friends, relatives, teachers and strangers started to outline in my mind a system of aquariums in which, from the isolation of my own sphere, I was trying to communicate; to keep alive the relationships in an unnatural and warped way.
A kaleidoscope effect that reflects images that are plausible but still unreal, that gives back just a glimpse of the fundamental connection with all that is outside of me and that defines my own identity.
