Overlapping
Samuele Bartolini
Overlapping reflects on the stratification of ideas and situations in our life as a flow which is constantly evolving. For the elaboration of the work the artist took in consideration a notebook where during these months he wrote down phrases that matter to him, appointments to remember, timetables to follow, current ideas or emotions. This group of writings bulids up a personal dimension which forms with the passing of time and its daily annotation on some pages is an attempt to keep it ordered and fixed on paper. However between one writing and the other the casuality of real life occurs. The attempt to order is contrasted by everyday changes, which are unpredictable and unstable: as a result they influence our thinking and acting. For the realization of the work the artist has overlapped all the pages he wrote in chronological order. The result is a chain of interconnected signs: one brings to another one in a non-stop process, though a permanent and vital growth. The overlapping caused the phrases, which are intimate, to be encrypted and illegible: the restitution of this personal record appears complex and paradoxical.
