Librokilo

Librokilo is coming to Florence for the first time:
On Saturday, February 1st, from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm, you can purchase a wide selection of books for just €10 per kilogram in Space B12 at Manifattura Tabacchi.

You’ll have over 10,000 books to choose from, including non-fiction, novels, graphic novels, and children’s books. Most of the volumes are in excellent pre-owned condition, some are brand new, and all are carefully curated.

Librokilo was born out of the need to make the publishing industry more sustainable. According to the Italian Publishers Association (AIE), more than 85.000 new titles were published in Italy alone in 2024—an average of about 234 books per day. Most of these books will be pulped within a few months for reasons unrelated to their cultural value, resulting in significant paper waste and excessive transportation needs. These practices have a major environmental impact, and Librokilo aims to help reduce this waste.

Additionally, you can bring your own books to reintroduce into circulation, with a limit of 5 kg. This is a great way to actively contribute to a virtuous recycling cycle. Books can be dropped off either on the event day (between 10.00 am and 7.00 pm) or the day before, Friday, January 31st, from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm.

In return, you’ll receive a voucher to use on the same day for purchasing new books.
