SENZA TE, SENZA NORD, SENZA TITOLO presents works that span over ten years of production: sculptures in slate, prints on paper, and video works come together to form a single large installation to be contemplated as a continuous line where light and darkness alternate.
In Ozzola’s works, light not only takes on the positive meaning of rebirth; in darkness, it is possible to establish a connection with oneself, finding that space of awareness necessary to overcome difficulties. With his works, the artist opens a gateway to the world, making room for the landscape and allowing us to trace new trajectories for our intimate and personal journey.
“In the incessant flow between loss and rediscovery, light and darkness, individual and universe, the path of existence unfolds. – says Giovanni Ozzola – A journey made of challenges, discoveries, encounters with the unknown. And in every moment of loss, voluntary birth, and the sound of a bell, we are called to define who we are, to trace our trajectory in the great mystery of the universe.”
Giovanni Ozzola
Born in Florence in 1982, Giovanni Ozzola currently lives and works in the Canary Islands. The artist expresses his artistic language through the mediums of photography and video, combining them with ancient techniques such as engraving on slate, mold sculpture, and tearing. Giovanni Ozzola’s practice reflects a profound sensitivity to the multiple phenomena of light and their physical characteristics, translated into the conceptualization and representation of works that explore the infinite and both geographical and introspective exploration.
Giovanni Ozzola has been featured in solo exhibitions such as “For a Little While” (Galleria Continua, Paris, 2023), “Harmonious Symbiosis” (III Xinjiang Biennale, curated by Zhang Zikang, Urumchi), “Traces of Wind” (Galleria Continua, Beijing, 2022), “I Didn’t See You” (166 Art Space, Shanghai, 2021), “Atto Unico/Single Act” (Galleria Continua, San Gimignano), “Bunkers and Stars” (XVI International Biennial of Photography, Museum of Fine Arts of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife, 2021), “If I Had to Explain, You Wouldn’t Understand” (Fosun Foundation, Shanghai, 2019), “Algo Tuyo y Mío” (Centro Foundacion UNICAJA, Malaga 2018, and Almeria 2019), “Wrecks and Rooms with Stars,” curated by Davide Ferri (Untitled AssociationLynchen, Berlin, 2017), and “Adrift” (District 6 Museum, Cape Town, 2016).
