Inferno
Baoyi Cao
In order for me to convey the idea of complex systems, I used various figures to create a triptych. The body of work expresses neither an end or a beginning with the intertwined figures on the four sheets of Bristol paper. I am working with the relationship between negative and positive space – this is a complex system of how human bodies interact with each other. I took inspiration from the written works of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno, frescos The Chamber of the Giants by Giulio Romano (1532-1534 at Palazzo Te, Mantua), and illustrations of Dante’s Divine Comedy by Sandro Botticelli.
