Goldshmied & Chiari | La meraviglia TALKS

Objects in the rear-view mirror are closer than they appear
with Goldshmied & Chiari
For the fourth instalment of the La meraviglia TALKS, Goldschmied & Chiari took the original approach of focussing not on their work itself, but rather on the research behind it.
In particular, they concentrated on the studies and processes that formed the foundation of their latest cycle of works, Untitled Views. Featuring mirrors with smoke coloured prints, the works allowed viewers to see themselves mirrored inside them.
Goldschmied & Chiari began their research by looking into the work of Harry Houdini, noted illusionist and escapologist from the early part of the last century, extending this fascination with illusionism to historical ties with the secret services, for which the cold war represents an important example. Illusionism, disappearance, action, mystery: the mirror is a means of concentrating the enigmatic nature of this research. Wonder is the element that accompanies its unveiling.
